Hsueh- tze Lee

Celebrating
33 years of tango!

ß

Hsueh-tze is known for her connection, musicality and innovative teaching.  She has taught Argentine Tango for over 30 years, both across North America and internationally (e.g., Singapore, Hong Kong, Mexico & Buenos Aires).
A life-long dancer, Hsueh-tze is one of North America's tango pioneers. She is also among the country's first women leaders, dancing both roles since 1990.

While Hsueh-tze's early tango exposure came from classes ranging from salon to nuevo, she ultimately learned to dance in the milongas of Buenos Aires. Since 1998, she danced extensively with milongueros from tango's Golden Age at many of the classic milongas that thrived in the early days of tango's current revival (e.g., Pavadita, Almagro, Regin, Canning, Sin Rumbo, Niño Bien, etc.).  Though milongueros all danced differently (having developed their individual dance over a lifetime), they shared a common regard for the importance of the music and of the embrace.

Over the years, Hsueh-tze applied her background in physiology and biomechanics to develop ways to help students move elastically, efficiently and musically; and refine their connection with the diverse range of partners typical of social tango. Her dedicated students are highly sought for their partnering skills and musical voice.

Hsueh-tze hosts and DJs Blue Milonga, the popular second Saturday milonga in Boston.

She holds a doctorate in physiology from Harvard University, and won a teaching award as a Harvard Teaching Fellow.  Formerly a biology professor at Wellesley College, Hsueh-tze transitioned to be one of the first full-time professional Argentine tango instructors of North America.
