Maxi
is one of the special young dancers carrying the torch of
the milongueros from tango's Golden Age. He has spent years
researching the social tango of the old masters. Maxi's
dance has the musicality and the improvisational inventiveness
that is characteristic of Buenos Aires' rich tradition.
Maxi generated enthusiastic high praise in Boston last year.
We are excited to welcome him back for his second visit!

WORKSHOPS
(1 hr 20 min)
Saturday
(11:45 PM
Registration)
12:00
PM A.
TECHNIQUE & MUSICALITY (All Levels)
We
will find the technical skills that make our dance both
highly effective and inherently musical, by exploring one's
axis, weight transfer, the embrace, partner communication
and musical ideas.
1:45 PM B. MILONGA
I: MUST HAVE RHYTHMIC PATTERNS (Intermediate)
We will study the milonga rhythms
of liso, traspie
and combinado patterns
from both the leader's and follower's perspective to achieve
an efficiently connected milonga. We'll also explore how
classic tango steps behave in milonga, and how these very
patterns give rise to several milonga "native"
steps.
3:30 PM C. MILONGA II:
GIROS IN MILONGA TRASPIE (Intermed & Advanced)
Milonga with traspie
can be a very simple dance. We can also enrich it
by expanding our vocabulary. One of the trickiest elements
of a more complex milonga traspie is the giros. We will
study both the overall technique behind them as well as
several examples of giros and connection between giros.
Sunday
(12:15
Registration)
12:30
PM D. ALTERNATE RHYTHMIC PATTERNS
(Intermediate)
Inspired by the old milongueros of
Buenos Aires, we’ll study different approaches to
the beat in tango. We’ll work on pauses and dancing
to the melody as well as the contrapiano to enhance our
perception and interpretation of the music.
2:15 PM E. IMPROVISATION IN CROSSES
(Intermed & Advanced)
This lesson is about perfecting the
technique for crosses, to incorporate crossing movements
in the leader's repertoire, and to use the cross as an important
element in musicality and as a source of new steps and combinations.
4:00 PM F. ADVANCED GIROS & CHANGES OF DIRECTION
(Advanced)
We will study different advanced giros,
from the classical unbreakable, to old milonguero jewels,
to several of Maxi's original combinations.
